Wellness Becoming Major Component in Real Estate

This spring I attended the inaugural WELL Regional Summit here in Charlotte and had a chance to learn more about the development of “buildings that care”. The conference, held by IWBI which started its work only a little more than 10 years ago, shared not only examples of great projects adhering to WELL, but also the actual ROI associated with following WELL criteria.

Two developers are currently creating major wellness communities in the Charlotte region. ARCHETYPE Investments will launch its VALE mixed-use wellness community this spring. The first phase of VALE will feature luxury apartments complemented by spa-like amenities ranging from saunas, a cold plunge, a resort-inspired pool, and a state-of-the-art fitness center to walking trails and meditation gardens.

Smart technology applications are an integral part of VALE. A proprietary app, WELLIFIZE, enables residents to control their home’s lighting, temperature, and speakers. It also provides wellness scans, curated content from best-in-class wellness providers, and tips for nutrition, sleep, fitness, and mindfulness. A second phase will add offices, shops, and a wellness club.

Pappas Properties LLC is developing two new wellness-driven projects in the region. They have started work on Cadia Matthews, a multi-generational project in Matthews, and they just received approval for a second wellness-driven community in the Mooresville-Lake Norman area. I have seen the plans for VALE and expect it to be a tremendous addition to the region as it opens in a few months.
