What is Agile Marketing?

Planning for and Making Changes to Your MarketingTactics in a Fast-Paced Digital World

Today’s world changes at lightning speed thanks to technology and digital platforms. Whether you are doing digital or traditional marketing, your audience’s attention is short and their needs change constantly.

So what does this mean for your marketing tactics?

And how can you plan for success?

It can feel overwhelming on one hand because it’s a lot to keep up with. But, at the same time, it can be a huge opportunity. If only we are willing to approach it this way.

What is Agile Marketing?

Agile marketing is the ability to be nimble with your marketing tactics.

In order to be successful in today’s digital age, you have to change your marketing tactics as the needs of your target audience changes.

If you aren’t solving a problem for your target audience or meeting their needs, they’ll find you irrelevant and move on. No one wants that.

This is why agile marketing is so key to the success of any brand. In order to be successful, you have to be willing and open to changing up your marketing tactics as needed.

If I’m constantly having to switch up my marketing tactics, then what am I able to plan for?

The answer is, there are many aspects of your marketing tactics and strategy that you can still plan out!

Things You Can Plan For

The Initial Strategy:

While you may feel like planning out a marketing strategy seems immaterial because of the need to switch things up when needed, just remember that old saying, “fail to plan, plan to fail.”

You still need to plan out your marketing strategy based on your current data that looks toward your long-term goals. If your target audience has problem X, you still need to strategize a campaign that will help solve problem X. You just need to be open to the fact that your audience may have problem Y they need solved a month from now and be willing to change your marketing to meet those needs.

The Backup Plan:

After you have planned your marketing tactics, also consider planning some backup tactics. If 2020 taught us anything, it’s that things can literally change overnight.

Last year, many stores found themselves having to switch to being solely online and schools and other organizations went remote. This caused a huge shift in the way many brands had to market to their audience. While your backup plans may not have to be for huge events like this, it’s important to take into consideration that you may need to adjust or switch up your tactics and having some backup ideas in the works can help you make those changes faster.

Time to Check the Data:

And as with any marketing campaign, it’s important to constantly make tweaks to help your campaigns perform even better.

Plan time each week or each day to check in on the data results and make those needed tweaks.

This will also help you see any bigger changes that are coming down the pipeline, helping you switch to plan B faster!

Taking a Holistic Approach to Marketing

Agile marketing isn’t just nimble, but collaborative and holistic as well. It’s about looking at the big picture and investing in long-term success.

We know, it sounds like an oxymoron that agile marketing takes looking at both short-term success and changes, plus strategizing for your brand’s long-term success. But when you look at the bigger picture and take into account other aspects of your brand beyond the marketing (product development, creative partnerships, and even personnel recruitment), you begin to see how your marketing tactics fit into the larger puzzle.

For example, who you hire says a lot about your brand and your values. Part of what makes a great marketing strategy is being able to communicate your brand’s values to your target audience in order to build trust and brand loyalty. This is why a holistic approach is needed in your marketing strategy, even when you feel like things may be constantly changing.
